Steve TilsonHebden Bridge musician Steve Tilston wins at BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards – It was a mixed night for local musicians at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards with legendary songwriter Steve Tilston picking up a gong but the Unthanks leaving empty handed despite four nominations.

Steve shared the Best Original Song award with Bella Hardy for the title track of his critically acclaimed album 'The Reckoning', but Becky Unthank comes back to Hebden without an award despite a wonderful performance at the ceremony by The Unthanks, who teamed up local legends the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band.

"Both Steve and Becky are both great supporters of the Trades Club who have really helped us out over the years with some brilliant sell out shows, so we were delighted they were nominated for what are now the biggest prizes in British folk," says Trade spokesperson Paul Clarke.

"Steve's win is thoroughly deserved as 'The Reckoning' is an absolutely fantastic album which every folk fan should buy, and although The Unthanks didn't win a prize I think their amazing gigs at the Picture House shows they are most innovative live act doing the rounds.

"Our booker is yet again ahead of the hype booking Lucy Ward who has
had her undoubted ability recognised by the Horizon Award for best
newcomer, and we would suggest you get a ticket early as there is not
that many left."
