Hebden Bridge Prepares for Second

The Second World on Your Doorstep Festival will take place in Calder Holmes Park in Hebden Bridge in July.  Last year, the first festival was a brilliant success.  Despite appalling weather, over 2000 people enjoyed themselves in the park during the two days.  Locals were delighted to have a popular music festival once again in Hebden Bridge.  They can’t wait for this year’s on 19th and 20th July.

Dave BoardmanDave Boardman, the festival organiser, said, “This is a fabulous festival.  It is a world music festival.  It celebrates the different communities in Calderdale and beyond.  Last year, there were performers from Burnley, Milnrow, Clitheroe and Manchester, from Leeds and Bradford, and from local African, African-Caribbean, Punjabi, Pakistani, Turkish, Iranian, Irish, Scottish, Canadian, American and Breton communities.  And this year we are going to extend the festival beyond the park.  On the Friday and Saturday nights, there will be musical events in a number of venues in Hebden Bridge, such as the Trades Club, the Stubbing Wharf pub, and the Fox and Goose pub.  We intend the festival to become an important annual event in the region.”  More details of the festival can be found on the festival website

The opening of the festival on Saturday 19th July will be marked by an exciting and colourful parade, the Hebden Bridge Handmade Parade, organised by the Arts group HEADS, which will set off from Valley Road at 11 am and make its way along Bridge Gate and Holme Street to arrive in the park at noon.  Find out more about the parade on the parade website.

“We need lots of volunteers to help with the festival,” says Dave.  “Anyone who would like to help should get in touch with Emma Smith at ejsmith64@hotmail.co.uk or any evening on 01422 846182 or with Viv on 01422 844091.”
